New York Post Endorses Trump

We will look back on the stretch leading to Wisconsin as the low point of the Trump Campaign. This Sunday, as part of my New York Primary preview for the GOP, I’ll reveal some numbers showing how Trump is about to take off in the 2016 Republican Primary. It appears Rupert Murdoch and the New York Post wants to be there for the ascent. The paper has endorsed Donald Trump for president.

The theme of the endorsement will sound increasingly familiar for the next six months as Republicans hold their nose and climb on board the Trump train. Among the Post‘s comments:

  • Donald Trump is a rookie candidate — a potential superstar of vast promise, but making rookie mistakes.
  • The promise is clearly there in the rookie who is, after all, leading the field as the finals near.

The Post then listed some of Trump’s oversimplistic solutions to geopolitical issues — how to handle east Asia, his approach to nuclear proliferation, the wall, protectionist trade policies — and his “amateurish, divisive, and downright coarse” language. But then it goes on to say:

  • But what else to expect from someone who’s never been a professional politician and reflects common-man passions?
  • Trump is now an imperfect messenger carrying a vital message.
  • He has the potential — the skills, the know-how, the values — to live up to his campaign slogan: to make America great again.

With Murdoch’s Post now behind him, can Fox News be far behind? After Trump takes off — and he will take off (check back Sunday) — the Republican mainstream will eventually circle the wagons. Considering the Republican obsession with beating Hillary Clinton, the Post‘s line of reasoning will be enough for most Republicans to get behind Trump. Then, the Democratic obsession with beating Donald Trump will be enough for most Sanders supporters to get behind Clinton.

That’s right, America. We’re about to nominate the two most unpopular politicians in the country for president. USA! USA!
